Who are they?
Teaching assistants are students from second year on that have had a good performance in the course they assist in. They also stand out for being proactive and driven.
Currently, teaching assistants in the program’s own courses are Daniela Vilches and Nicole Despres, both second year students and assistants in the course EIN1001 Introduction to Teaching English.
A teaching assistant’s main duty is to help with the work of the professor who teaches the course. Among their tasks are: preparing class material, supervising students during assessments, marking assessments under provided guidelines, offering assistantship sessions to students, among others.
Although most UC courses have teaching assistants, the English Language Pedagogy program only manages assistantships from interdisciplinary PCK courses, with the EIN code.
These courses are currently the following:
As is the case of peer tutors, the first week of January each year, the Director Office of the Program of English Language Pedagogy for Primary and Secondary Education launches an open call for EIN courses assistantship vacancies. Students interested in participating must answer an online application survey, followed by an interview with the Program Director and the professor of the course in order to explore the candidate’s motivations and skills that would enable them to become a teaching assistant. An important requirement in the process are the candidate’s grades in the course in which they wish to be a teaching assistant.
