English Language Pedagogy for Primary and Secondary Education is an Inter-Faculty Program where the UC Faculties of Education and Letters work together. This distinguishing feature allows for a permanent dialog between the subject area and pedagogy.

The program seeks to:

  1. Train teachers with an advanced command of the English language and with the skills to transform subject knowledge into pedagogical-subject knowledge in line with the national school curriculum and incorporating the diversity of their own culture and that of other English-speaking contexts.
  2. Provide training for an effective performance both in Primary and Secondary Education, designing and developing English language learning opportunities in various contexts and answering to the heterogeneity of the school classroom, through early practicums, a relationship with the community and classroom research.
  3. Train education professionals that are focused on achieving meaningful learning in all their students, are characterized by their motivation and willingness to seek continuous improvement, show service vocation, have teamwork skills and have the capacity to lead in the classroom as well as in their educational community, contributing to closing the gap among learners of English in the country.
  4. To develop an integral education, in line with the UC seal, which considers the formation of cultured people, with their own and wide perspective of the world, with solid values and critical and reflective thinking to address the complexities of the education phenomenon.

The Program is run by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Letters, through the Program Council.
